How to Teach Your Child to Pick After His Toys

Are you having problems with your child’s toys scattered everywhere? Do you walk in his room and feel like you have walked in a chaotic world? Well, you’re not alone. This is the scene most parents deal with day after day. But don’t think that there is nothing you can do about it. You can always teach your child to organize. Why not give him toy boxes so that he has a distinct place to store his toys.

Children don’t usually care about picking up there toys after playing with them. They would most likely leave it somewhere once they are done with it and look for another toy to play with. After they got bored, they’ll turn to the next toy again.

If they are not taught how to pick their toys and organize it, they’ll get use to the clutter and think that it is normal. So while you still can, train your children to pick after his toys, and arrange them in their child toy box.

How to teach your child to pick after his toys?

  1. Start at an early age. Teaching your child to pick his toys should start as soon as he learns how to walk. Training him to arrange his things early will be easier because he listens to what the people around him say and follows it.
  2. Do it with him. You can’t expect your toddler to know what to do or get it right the first time. Play with him and clean up with him. After playing with the toys, instruct him to return it in the toy box and show him how to arrange it. They may not understand this at first but if you show to him how it is done constantly, he’ll be able to learn it. Soon you’ll notice that he will be handing you the toys after using them or place it in the boxes himself.
  3. When you think he is ready, check if he can do it by himself. After playing with him, observe if he will return the toys as you have done in the previous days. If he does, then it’s a success. If he fails, then that would mean that you have to tell him again about picking up his toys and arranging it in the wooden toy box.
  4. If he learns to return his toys then check if he arranges them properly. It is expected that toddlers need a lot of help arranging things. This is why parents need to guide them until they mastered arranging their toys.
  5. While teaching your child to pick after his toys, observe his things as well. Does he organize the rest of his things in the room or not? If not, you can slowly introduce how to organize the rest of his stuff.

Picking up his toys is a good training for young children. This will not only teach them how to use the wood toy boxes, but it will also teach them how to be responsible with their things.
